Description of Position
The Director of Purchasing will work closely with the Culinary team and suppliers to lead efforts to maximize food quality, source unique products, ensure availability while minimizing costs. This person will work with local distributors, farmers and international producers/artisans. Responsibilities will also include contracting pricing for smallwares, supplies and other services.
The ideal candidate will be intelligent, have a strong background in buying and have extensive experience working with local distributors and farmers. She or he will have excellent negotiation skills, be detailed oriented, have strong analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving. This person will have a strong understanding of food characteristics and extensive experience working with chef driven concepts.
- Develop a national buying and distribution strategy that can accommodate a 40% annual growth rate for two different concepts
- Manage day-to-day functions of purchasing to ensure high quality products are sourced against product specifications and cost targets
- Ensure supply chain of products for all locations
- Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals, and review requisitions for goods and services
- Review invoices to ensure product is properly weighed and prices match order guides.
- Perpetually monitor commodity trends and keep the Company informed so that adjustments can be made well in advance of spikes in costs
- Source unique high quality products that enhance the brands
- Source specific products that met specs for new dishes developed by the culinary group
- Work closely with our third party procurement, price checking and inventory tracking vendor
- Manage internal distribution.
- Identify new suppliers for new and existing markets to maintain the best product quality and pricing.
- Track and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and recommend any needed changes
- Develop and recommend organizational buying strategies to ensure operational efficiencies and to increase customer service levels industry

Reporting Structure
The Director of Purchasing will report to Adam Halberg, Culinary Director with a dotted line to Jeff Carcara, President.
